
Why evil turkey? Don’t get me wrong; I like turkey as much as anyone. But in a chili, turkey always seems a little bland. So I make mine with bitter cocoa, a nice dark beer (e.g. chocolate stout), and several minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Chipotle peppers aren’t too terribly hot, but if you add way too much (as I have before), you’ll swear the chili is trying to kill you. Hence the name.

And what better way to put out those flames than a good quality brew. On Superbowl Sunday, no less. I was lucky enough to find a Saranac winter mix pack the other day, so last night I tried their American Pale Ale, and was not disappointed. Plenty of hops punch, which is just what I was in the mood for after Jules and I spent three hours digging our cars out of the snow.
