We’re back up and running! But only temporarily. After spending 4 hours on the phone with Best Buy and Verizon this weekend, we have neither a refrigerator nor internet/TV–and won’t until March 19.  Unbelievable.  Needless to say, we will never buy anything from either again.  Period.

So after yesterday’s frustration, I had to visit my happy place–Wegmans! Ah, it makes everything better.  We stocked up on groceries for the week (not hard to do, given the lack of a fridge).  I bought a bunch of veggies and am trying to incorporate more into my lunches this week.

Lunch today was a huge salad with Sabra hummus and Wegmans’ mini pitas on the side.

In the salad:

– Baby spinach
– Carrots
– Celery
– Green beans
– Wegmans’ Organic balsamic vinegrette

These pitas are like little fluffy pillows! So soft and delicious…especially with Sabra.  This is the new(ish) lemon flavor.  I mixed a little into the salad too, and it was delicious.

We’re off to the movies to finally see Avatar (in 3D, but not Imax–sadly, we missed the boat on that one!).  Until next time…not sure when that will be exactly, but hopefully sooner rather than later!


Happy Thursday! This week’s gone by so fast.  Only two more days in our apartment! Movers are coming Saturday to move the big stuff–couches, bed, etc.

Breakfast this morning was a new kind of cereal–Wegmans’ brand maple pecan crunch

Oh. My. Gosh.  So good!! It was like eating a bowl of Christmas cookies.  This may be my new favorite cereal.  And yes, I added just enough milk again this morning to wet it a little.

I saved the green banana and instead allowed it to make a guest appearance at lunchtime, along with a Luna Bar.  Lunas are my favorite of all the bars–at least of the ones I’ve tried. 

This one was iced oatmeal raisin, which–like my cereal–tasted like a cookie.  Hmm…I’m off to a good start today. 😉

We’re finally out of leftovers for dinner, so we treated ourselves to Five Guys tonight!  Sometimes you just need a good burger and fries, you know? 

I got a small burger (i.e. one patty–I made the mistake the first time I visited of ordering a regular one, which comes with TWO patties) with A-1 sauce, mushrooms and pickles.  I love Five Guys because you can totally customize and get whatever toppings you want on your burger.

Spike went really healthy on this one…a double with cheese and bacon. Yikes.  I did have a bite though, and it was delicious.  Seriously.

How did I not know about this place before we moved down here?  I guess they have them all over the Boston area now, but I never visited one up there.

Burger heaven! Enough said.


Huge bummer at lunch today…Pot Belly never showed with our sandwiches! So the meeting organizers ran downstairs to our (gross) cafeteria and picked up lunch for everyone…which meant I was stuck with a ‘pizzeria uno’ personal cheese pizza that I could only manage to eat 2 pieces of.

That’s one strike against Pot Belly in the sandwich catering war with Jimmy John’s!  To make up for it, I had a little afternoon snack at my desk. 🙂

Hershey’s is sponsoring an event at work, so they sent over box after box of free candy.  Total sugar hazard at work every day.  There’s a virtually bottomless bowl of sweets!  I loved the Valentine’s themed York peppermint patty–it was pink on the inside! Very cute.

Dinner was more reheated leftovers from the freezer.  This was the last one!

This is a simple pasta bake with Wegmans’ diavolo sauce and mushrooms, green peppers and chicken sausage.  It looked better the first few times we ate it.  Love the chicken sausage!

This Wegmans’ sauce is probably the best jarred tomato sauce I’ve ever had.  Slightly spicy with a tomato flavor that doesn’t taste artificial.

I can’t believe it’s Sunday night already…where did the weekend go?  I know where it went actually–we were painting the entire time! And moving, and packing and unpacking.  I will be so happy when March 1st rolls around and we’re finally settled in the new place.

Breakfast this morning was on the go–a Breakstone cottage double.  I can’t seem to find my favorite flavor (raspberry) anywhere down here.  This one is blueberry, which is also good, but I wish I could find a store that carries the other one.  Maybe they discontinued it?  Hm…

We broke for lunch around 2:00.  Sick of eating out, I thought ahead and packed us sandwiches.

Spike and I have been having a heated debate since he’s started eating sandwiches like this.  Is this a triple decker sandwich, or a double decker?  I say triple, he says double.

We came back to the apartment for dinner–thawed homemade tomato bisque with some fun sides. 

Our guests last week brought us some horseradish cheese spread from Saratoga Springs, so we tried that on some reduced fat triscuits.  Yum!  And of course, some bread for dipping.

Back to work tomorrow.  Hope you enjoyed the weekend more than we did!

Another day, another snow day here in Maryland…

Breakfast was  a bowl of cheerios and a Fage 2%, which is my favorite of the Greek yogurts.  I wasn’t terribly hungry and saved the banana for later–maybe I’ll have it as a pre-workout snack this afternoon.

I’m starting to get used to this whole working-from-home thing.  It makes me think fondly about my time as a freelancer, before I went back to grad school, when I could set my own schedule.  I had all the time in the world to work out, eat right, etc.  It’s no coincidence that I was at my healthiest then.  I feel like I’ve gone back to my old (good) habits these past few days while I’ve been snowed in, and it’s going to be hard to re-adjust to sitting at a desk from 9 to 5.  To anyone out there who works a ‘normal’ 9 to 5 job–how do you fit in your healthy habits?

Lunch was a Kashi frozen entree: Mayan Harvest Bake

Yum!  I picked up a few of these at the grocery store last week, and this is the first one I’ve tried.  It has some super ingredients like kale, beans, sweet potatoes and plantains, and a sauce that’s a little smokey and spicy. I’m definitely impressed with Kashi’s entrees, and am looking forward to trying the other ones.

The snow has started falling, and I already got the alert that work is closed tomorrow.  For the 4th day in a row!

This morning we ventured out to the grocery store, and as expected, it was pretty picked over.  We got what we needed, though, and while we were out running errands we picked up lunch.

Jimmy John’s! I got this sandwich–the beach club, no mayo–a bunch of times last year while I was in grad school.  The best parts are the avocado spread and the sprouts.

I did some work this afternoon, and a quick 40 minutes on the elliptical, and before I knew it, it was dinnertime! I picked up some sweet potatoes at the grocery store this morning just for this:

Kath’s sweet potato fries! I was so psyched to try these.  I sprinkled these with montreal steak seasoning, baked for 20-ish minutes, and they came out perfect!

Also on the menu was a Dr. Praeger’s California veggie burger.  I like these a lot–the flavor is excellent, and I like that there are actual chunks of veggies visible in it.  The only drawback is that it doesn’t hold up well when I cook it on the Foreman grill.  It gets kind of mushy and falls apart.  But it’s still delicious!

The verdict is still out on whether (weather…) we’ll be able to make it to Spike’s friend’s house for the game tonight.  We had planned on making a buffalo chicken dip, but I’ve got plans for the ingredients if we’re not able to go.

This morning I had a quick breakfast of Chobani blueberry yogurt topped with some berry granola cereal from Wegmans. 

Weg’s has the best store brands–seriously, everything I’ve tried has been excellent.  Spike especially likes WPOP (often featured on our favorite show The Office!).

Love the sunlight this morning! After breakfast we went outside to survey the damage…

I’m actually resting on a good 6 more inches in this picture.  You can guess what this afternoon’s main activity is (aside from watching the Syracuse basketball game).

I also got a few things crossed off on our wedding to-do list! Namely, researching DJs, finishing our web site, and emailing all my friends for their addresses to send save-the-dates to.  Our big day (10/23) is approaching quickly!

Lunch was a turkey and cheese sandwich on a sandwich round.  The special ingredient was Stonewall Kitchen’s blue cheese herb mustard.  My future in-laws live in Maine, so every time we head up there we stop at the Stonewall store for mucho sampling.  We’re pretty shameless when it comes to free samples. 🙂
