If you saw the pictures from Jules’ post Snowy Saturday, you won’t be surprised to learn that we were “snowed in” last night.  We couldn’t get out to our friends’ Superbowl party, or the feast that awaited us there.  Fortunately we knew this was a possibility, and had thawed out some frozen chili I made in December.  I call it “Evil Turkey Chili.”

Why evil turkey?  Don’t get me wrong; I like turkey as much as anyone.  But in a chili, turkey always seems a little bland.  So I make mine with bitter cocoa, a nice dark beer (e.g. chocolate stout), and several minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce.  Chipotle peppers aren’t too terribly hot, but if you add way too much (as I have before), you’ll swear the chili is trying to kill you.  Hence the name.

And what better way to put out those flames than a good quality brew.  On Superbowl Sunday, no less.  I was lucky enough to find a Saranac winter mix pack the other day, so last night I tried their American Pale Ale, and was not disappointed.  Plenty of hops punch, which is just what I was in the mood for after Jules and I spent three hours digging our cars out of the snow.
